Irish Riders Go To Worlds
BMX Ireland want to wish the Irish riders going to the BMX World Championships in Birmingham’s NIA this week the best of luck. We’ve got six riders competing this year (our first season of racing in Ireland) with the best from around the world.
Corey Waller will be battling with the 5-6 year old boys, we’re thinking Corey might be in there with a shout.
Both Aaron Edwards and Jake Lynch will be in the very tough 14 year old boys group while Alex Holliday in the 17-24 men’s class will be knocking bars with riders who will step up to the Junior and Elite men next season, a very completive class.
Irelands own Shane Jessup will be in with the 30+ men, not sure that racing people closer to his own age is going to make it any easier for him at this level but Shane has lots of top level experience (admittedly a good while ago).
Our Elite male rider in the Championship Class Kelvin Batey, will be right in the mix with the world’s best. He’s been on the podium before so he knows what’s required to succeed. Kelvin is also hoping to secure a London 2012 Olympic spot with a good result at the Worlds which would be a huge boost to Irish BMX. We are wishing him well.
We plan on having a full report on how our riders do when they get home. Again, best of luck to all our riders, get as much experience as you can … soak it all in!
Redbull TV will be showing live racing on the web, Saturday 26th. BBC 2 will be showing highlights from the event on Sunday June 3rd (we think it’s 2pm but check your TV guide).
