Marlena Drozdziok (Epic MTB) gets signed in Europe!
The Offroad Commission would like to congratulate Marlena Drozdziok (Epic MTB) on what looks like a beginning of a professional cycling career in mainland Europe on board of the Polish racing team Bolmet Trek Legnica! Well done Marlena!
Marlena has always loved to ride a bike but it was here in Ireland where she got hooked on mountain biking, when she arrived here with her parents 5 years ago.
She joined the Dublin based club Epic MTB Expert Cycles and competed in her first Cross Country race 3 years ago (Biking Blitz) and she hasn’t stopped racing since then!
Unfortunately Marlena’s age group is not very well contested here in Ireland, which was the reason why she decided to try to race abroad. This proved to be a brilliant move. In the last 2 years she has been on the podium 4 times (in Polish XC races on a national level) and won numerous XC races around the country. It wasn’t long before PZKOL (Polish Cycling Union) became interested in Marlena’s career and invited her to do fitness and endurance tests with the Polish national team.
What happened next was a dream come true scenario – Marlena got signed by a major racing team Bolmet Trek Legnica for whom she will be racing internationally in 2013.
In February this year Marlena is traveling to Italy with her new team to train hard on the road to get ready for some XC races in Spain this March!
Marlena says she is not leaving Ireland though, she told me she was very excited about the upcoming NPS and the Biking Blitz series, so we are looking forward to seeing her there!
