Cyclo-cross riders and the Irish jersey

Any CX Rider with ambition to ride UCI World Cup level (or higher) is requested to discuss plans with the Off-road Commission’s (ORC) National cyclo-cross Co-Ordinator as far ahead of the race as possible. The ORC & the National CX Co-Ordinator are working with Cycling Ireland to develop a transparent and progressive pathway for CX where riders can receive mentoring, technical & physical coaching and informed guidance on how to progress in the sport. We are keen to drive the standard of our CX Riders towards higher International levels by introducing support & structure to ORC CX activities. An important part of this development process is gaining exposure to an appropriate level of racing that will challenge the athlete to progress while also providing a positive race & learning experience.

As such, the process to ascertain the viability of an entry to a UCI World Cup level or higher race is as follows:
– Rider to positively engage with National CX Co-Ordinator and discuss any ambition or plans to race abroad
– CX Co-Ordinator to decide if the race in question is a level of event appropriate to their demonstrated ability level and trajectory of development
– Where it is a requirement to wear the Irish National Team Jersey / Skinsuit for an event (e.g. U23 UCI CX WC), riders will be subject to a selection process and/or have been part of an ongoing progressive development pathway in conjunction with the National Cyclocross Development Squad.
– If it is agreed the race in question represents an exposure level that provides a progressive development opportunity, the CX Co-Ordinator will request CI Staff to enter the rider(s) on the UCI entry system
– Input from the CI HPU may be sought in the above circumstances if deemed appropriate by National CX Co-Ordinator
