2013 Irish BMX National Series – Round 4

National 4 of the 2013 season is done and dusted, we had a great turn out, in all 114 riders turned up to race at the Ratoath track giving an awesome display of bike riding and unparalleled level of competition in any cycle sport on this island.

Mentioned in despatches:

Another awesome display from James Wood taking the win from Dylan Moore, Noah Master son was in the mix until a wipe out cost him dearly.

Corey “Rocky” Waller  taking the win from Ruben Smith who has just moved home to Belfast from Zimbabwe, a country he represented at World Level in BMX, we look forward to seeing Ruben and his equally lethal sister again on their flats real soon.  Remember no clips for 13 years and under.

Charlie Jackson is total loony having great fun he had a big crash and just gets on with it.

Ryan Quinn took one of the tightest battles of the day, just beating Niall Davis in the last moto to take the overall win.

Morgan “The Machine” Kearney overcame a bad crash to edge out Cian O’Sullivan for the win.

Ross “The Boss” Callaghan took the win from fast Daniel Barker,  these guys were hard to separate all day.

Seems the Wyer apprentice Brian “Elbows Jr.”  Kavanagh has some competition in the form of Alan Coleman, the guys were fighting  hard all day.

Adam Davis, operating the start gate with a broken collar bone got to watch his age group being won by Aaron McNally after  a tough battle with Leon “Moonwalker” Curley and Emmet Callaghan.

Tom Gordon spilt a lot of blood and a few teeth in practice so missed an epic battle in the best, the toughest and the wildest group of any kind in all of Irish cycle sport, the 14’s, the final saw a few mishaps with Sam “Silk”” Murphy leading until being BMX’ed by Eoin Corrigan in turn 3 who took the win followed home by a rampant Mathew “Super Fast” Malone who went from last to 2nd,  KT O’Neill taking a third to make the podium.

Aaron Edward, Jake Lynch and Jake Campbell from the 15 ‘s taking a 1,2,3 in the 16-29 merged group, need some more riders in the category.
Shauna Byrne and Abbey Steacy kicking it as usual in the girls.

KT O’Neill was not phased by racing the boys and the ladie’s groups “back to back”, a seriously tough and skilful bike rider, taking the win in Ladies and 3rd in the boys.

The 30+ saw a titanic battle between Ian Callaghan, Mark Kennedy and Stephen Bagnall. We even witnessed some argy bargy and some protests, great to see from these lads proving it doesn’t matter what age you, wanting to win a bike race against those that are brave enough to turn up to race you is still important, we salute you all.

In the Superclass, or the “walking wounded” no one backs down as per usual, Jeremy O’Brien, Lar Massey, Kevin McShane, Eamonn Wyer were all hospital cases and if not for a posse of medics, nurses, physio’s, healers, magicians and special ointments would all have been on the sidelines.  Best crash and performance of the day went to Lar Massey, demonstrating you can win and win in style no matter how old or how broken you are. Lar was followed home by Ben Schultz and Killian Callaghan just back from a broken leg.
