Inter-provincial Youth MTB Competition

Background: British Cycling had been running the Inter regional MTB Championships for over 10 years. The last year this was run was 2022. Cycling Ulster did participate for a few of the years that it was going. https://www.ulsterxc.com/irmtb/ It was felt that a similar competition could be held in Ireland as an inter-provincial championships.

Date: Sunday 1 September 2024
Duration: 1 day
Location: McCrystal’s CX track, Co. Louth

Target group: U12s, U14s and U16s
Riders must be Cycling Ireland members

Team format: Teams of four riders – 3 boys and 1 girl. This can be a mixture of ages.
Teams would be associated with provinces. No limit to the number of teams per province but an overall limit of 14 teams for the event.
If possible, provincial teams should be wearing provincial kit (jerseys) but similar club kit would also work. Each team should have a Team Manager.
Each team can have an optional coach as well.

Fee: €10 per rider

If you have a team already, each rider should put in the same team name. If you haven’t got a team, register and put in the team name “TBC”. We will aim to create composite teams.

10:00 skills area open for practice
11:00 skills competition begins
12:00-12:30 lunch 13:30
12:30-13:00 time trial course recce
13:00 handicapped time trials (based on results from skills competition)
14:00 hill climb practice
14:30 hill climb competition
15:15 team relay practice
15:30 team relay

Number plates and chip timing:
To be supplied by Bryan McCrystal. A pack will be handed out to the Team Manager. If the team has a coach, then the coach must display a number plate.

Equipment: Riders must use the same bicycle for the whole event. This must be a mountain bike. Dropper posts, if fitted, are not to be used during the skills competition.
Seat height will be checked.

Prizes: There will be individual prizes (top 3 boys, top 3 girls) and prizes for the top 3 teams.

Parking:
Sufficient parking available at the McCrystal site

Prize giving:
Prize presentations for each event will be done at the end of the day and will be overall individual winners (top 3 boys and top 3 girls in each of the 3 age bands) and will be awarded to the top 3 teams overall. The off-road commission would seek to provide the prizes.

Catering:
There will not be a specific catering van on site. There is a shop adjacent to the site.
